Does Chamomile Tea Make You Sleepy

Do you wonder if chamomile tea can help you sleep better, or why does chamomile tea make you sleepy? Read this post to see what I learnt about the benefits of drinking chamomile tea with regards to sleeping better and more relaxed.

If you are looking for teas to drink before bedtime so you can sleep more better, then you have probably heard about the health benefits of drinking chamomile tea before bedtime.

I love chamomile tea, as it helps me to relax naturally and helps with a relaxed sleep too. In fact I like to enjoy a cup of chamomile tea any time of the day, including morning, during the day time or right before the bed time.

And it doesn’t keep me awake at night for long hours, like coffee or regular tea, which too I like to sip especially if I have to be awake. Sipping a cup of chamomile tea made using chamomile tea bags(mostly I mix it with raw honey too) helps me to sleep better, more easily and more relaxed.

So, why does chamomile tea make you sleepy?

Chamomile tea is naturally caffeine free, as the tea is made from dried chamomile flowers and it has natural medicinal properties and health benefits as it is a herbal tea.

However, I am not a doctor to advise you with any health benefits or to tell why it makes you sleepy, but as a tea lover, I have tried quite a variety of teas and chamomile tea is one of the most mild and pleasantly flavored tea which I love.

My thoughts from my own personal experience is that chamomile flowers are herbs which are known to have sleep inducing compounds in them, and so probably the tea made of dried chamomile flowers would carry the same medicinal benefits.

And it is a fact that  chamomile tea helps me to sleep easily when taken before bedtime (remember this tea is caffeine free, so it won’t keep you awake like coffee or regular tea with caffeine). In my opinion, its very worth to have a cup of chamomile tea before bed time if you are looking forward to a natural and relaxed sleep.

You can enjoy it day or night (unless you are on any medication or if you have any allergies, please check with your doctor before trying any herbal tea. Also, if you are pregnant or nursing, make sure to ask your doctor before trying any herbal tea for the first time).

I like to enjoy a cup of chamomile tea any time of the day. It makes me feel relaxed and calm, and it helps me to sleep relaxed when taken before bed time.

However, usually I like to add a spoon of raw honey to my cup of chamomile tea, which makes it sweet and more delicious, with the natural flowery taste it has.

Honey is perfect (especially raw honey) with the chamomile tea, and if you want to try this tea for a better sleep, I would recommend adding a spoon of honey also to the chamomile tea, as the combination of honey and chamomile tea is the perfect for a relaxed sleep (at least this works for me, in case you are diabetic you may need to avoid adding honey).
