1. Yellow Squash

Yellow squash is a great vegetable that is popular and it is commonly available around the fall season. I do not know why this vegetable came to my mind when I thought about foods that start with y, but maybe because how it look so bright and colorful with all that yellow color! It is such a simple vegetable that you can easily add to your dinner. You can roast it, sautee or make casseroles!

2. Yellow Moong Dal (Yellow Mung Beans)

Yellow moong dal or mung beans is actually mung beans with its skin removed.

The whole mung beans have green skin, but when the skin is removed from the dal, it looks yellow.

And yellow moong dal is so popularly used in Indian cuisine, to make so many dishes. Try this yellow moong dal dosa which is a simple Indian crepe made using yellow moong dal.

It is delicious when used in recipes and it is healthy as well as nutritious!

3. Yogurt

Yogurt is obviously one of the top most foods that start with letter y! As you already know, yogurt has a lot of health benefits, it's nutritous and used in a lot of recipes, though it's most popularly enjoyed as a snack on it's own when flavored with vanilla, strawberry etc along with sweeteners.

4. Yorkshire Pudding

Yorkshired pudding is a very famous, popular English pudding usually made using flour, milk, eggs and sugar. Though most popular traditional yorkshire puddings uses meat, you can make vegan yorkshire puddings as well.

5. Yams

Yams come in many varieties and sizes and shapes. They are root vegetables which are healthy, nutritious and delicious. They are often boiled, steamed or cooked to make snacks or side dishes. They are also fried or baked to make delicious fries.

6. Yellow Curry

Yellow curry is one of the most famous and populat Thai food made using yellow curry paste. It is one of the three kinds of curries from Thai cuisine that is popular around the world and it is delicious!

7. Yakisoba Noodles

Yakisoba noodles is a popular dish from Japanese cuisine. Yakisoba means fried noodles but these noodles are mostly stir fried along with vegetables or meat.

9. Yuca

Yuca is a popular starchy root vegetable and it is also known by the names tapioca or cassava. It is often used in South Indian cuisine in boiled form, which when served with chilies (and with fish for those who eat fish).

Boiled yuca with spices like turmeric, red chilies etc is a simple, but very filling and calorie rich food and it's delicious!

10. Yukon Gold Potatoes (Yellow Potatoes)

Yukon gold potatoes or yellow potatoes are some of the most popular and common potatoes that is used in a variety of dishes very commonly, and they are too delicious whether baked or cooked or fried!

You can also make perfect microwave baked potatoes using yellow potatoes.

11. Yellow Corn

Yellow corn is one of the most popular foods that starts with the letter y. Keep in mind that corn is always not yellow corn, but we have white corn too!

Perfect boiled corn, roasted buttered corn, instant pot frozen corn on the cob, mini corn on the cob using frozen mini corn etc make great corn dishes.

12. Yellow Corn Meal

Yellow corn meal or cornflour is the flour made from dried yellow corn and it is popularly used in recipes to make dishes like cornbread, cornbread muffins etc.

13. Yolk

Yolks are nothing but egg yolks and they are nutritious and used in many recipes, as you already know!

14. Yellow Onions

Yellow onions are different from white onions and pink onions. Yellow onions are most commonly and popularly used in many recipes and while they have a stronger flavor, they are also mildly sweet.

15. Yellow Cake

Yellow cake is one of the most popular and delicious cakes!

They are yellow in color because we often use egg yolks to make them and sometime we also use yellow color.

16. Yellow Watermelon

Though watermlons with pink flesh and green skin are the most popular, we do have a variety of watermelon called yellow watermelons! They are great for salads.

17. Yellow Peppers

Yellow peppers are usually midly sweet peppers that are used in a lot of recipes in many cuisines.

18. Yellow Rice

Yellow rice is nothing but rice colored yellow using turmeric or saffron or other spices or seasonings or flavors!

Yellow rice is popular as they make great, colorful side dishes for dinner.

You can make instant pot yellow rice as well as yellow rice on stove top.

19. Yeast

Though yeast is not an edible food on its own form, yeast is one of the most important ingredient used in many recipe for baking.

Yeast is commonly used to make breads including many kind of flatbread & sandwich bread. Yeast helps the batter or dough to rise and thus helps us make breads and more.

20. Youngberries

Youngberries are kinds of berries that are used to make jams and jellies.
