It is basically a very simple and easy Indian style mashed potatoes recipe (without butter and milk) using mashed potatoes with onions and spices. Potato Masala For Dosa & Poori

Potato masala for dosa, chapathi or poori is Indian style mashed potatoes (without milk & butter). This is a vegetarian/vegan recipe which can be enjoyed as a side dish or filling for any flatbread.

Ingredients

  • 5 potatoes
  • 2 medium sized onions
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • salt as needed

Instructions

  • Chop the onions and keep aside.
  • Cook the potatoes very well till they are really soft, and can be mashed with your hands. In pressure cooker, it takes usually 4 to whistles or about 10 minutes.
  • Once the potatoes are very well cooked, remove the skin and mash with hands. Little chunky pieces are fine.
  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  • Add chopped onions and saute them well, until the onions are slightly browned.
  • Add mashed potatoes, salt and turmeric powder, mix well.
  • Stir well all the ingredients in the pan for one or two more minutes and then switch off the flame, now the delicious potato masala for dosa or poori is ready!

Notes

Serve hot with the Indian breads or try them with whatever bread or other recipes of your choice, or use this as the filling to make South Indian masala dosa!
