Basmati rice is in fact the most popular variety of rice used in India. Basmati rice comes from North India, but its popular in both North India and South India.
While basmati rice is a long grain rice, sona masoori rice is a medium grain rice and the texture is quite different.
Also, sona masoori rice is said to be low in starch and low in calories compared to basmati rice.
However, both are delicious, nutritious and popular varieties of rice from India which can be enjoyed with other side dishes of your choice.

How Long To Cook Brown Sona Masoori Rice In Instant Pot?
Brown sona masoori rice can be cooked much easily in an instant pot in lesser time using less amount of water than traditional methods of preparing rice in a pot or pan on stove top.
In fact, preparing rice using the instant pot pressure cooker is much faster than the traditional methods and you get perfect rice everytime!
You can easily make perfect instant pot sona masoori rice, perfect instant pot white basmati rice, instant pot brown basmati rice, instant pot ponni rice etc.
Depending on how soft you want your brown rice, you can adjust the time of cooking for brown sona masoori rice.
In fact, brown sona masoori rice just needs 20 minutes of cooking in high pressure in the instant pot for chewy, aldente rice.
It won't be too soft with 20 minutes of cooking, but it will be perfectly cooked and firm in texture so it won't be mushy at all.
It will be perfect to be used in rice bowls, pualo etc or if you prefer slightly chewy rice that is not very soft in texture.
If you want slightly more soft rice, you may cook the brown sona masoori rice for about 24 to 25 minutes in high pressure in the instant pot.

How To Cook Brown Sona Masoori Rice In Instant Pot
We use the following ingredients in this recipe for making perfect brown sona masoori rice in the instant pot.
Ingredients Used
brown sona masoori rice 2 cups
water 4 cups
oil 1 teaspoon (optional)
salt adjust to taste (optional)
Step By Step Instructions
Wash the rice very well in water and transfer the washed rice to the instant pot.
Also add the water, salt & oil (if using), gently mix in.
Close the instant pot with lid in sealing position, cook in high pressure for 20 minutes for perfectly cooked, but firm rice with chewy texture (al dente rice). For more softer rice, you may cook for about 23 to 25 minutes or even upto 27 to 28 minutes depending on how soft you want your rice.
Once the cooking is done, wait for a natural pressure release.
If needed, you may carefully do a controlled gradual manual pressure release after about 12 to 14 minutes of natural pressure release.
Once the pressure is all released, carefully open the lid.
Fluff the cooked rice using a fork or stir carefully using a good spatula, and serve hot with any curry or side dishes of your choice!
