Ingredients

  • 4 large ripe bananas
  • 2 cups flour 2 cups
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon
  • 3/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder (or use few drops of vanilla essence-- optional ingredient)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter or ghee
  • oil to deep fry (as needed to fry the banana balls)

Instructions

to make the batter

  • Peel and mash the bananas in a large bowl.
  • Add the flour also to the bowl.
  • Add the salt, sugar and cardamom powder, mix everything together until the ingredients are well mixed evenly.
  • Add the milk little by little and mix everything again.
  • Add the ghee or melted butter, mix again until all the ingredients are evenly mixed to form the batter.

to fry the banana bread balls

  • Heat enough oil in a frying pan.
  • When the oil is hot enough, take one teaspoon of batter using a good quality steel spoon and gently drop the batter into the hot oil without splashing the oil. If the batter is sticking to the spoon, you can hold the spoon under the oil for a few seconds which will help the batter to fall off. Otherwise, you may also use another spoon to gently scrape off the batter from the spoon to the oil.
  • Add more teaspoons of batter to the hot oil until the pan is almost filled with the banana balls (do not overcrowd but you can fill as much as you can).
  • Once the batter is all fried and lightly browned on one side (which may take about 1 to 2 minutes), gently flip the banana balls so the other side will also get fried. You can use a good quality spatula and a steel spoon to easily and gently flip them without splashing the hot oil.
  • Wait until the other side is also cooked and the banana balls turn golden brown in color, transfer the fried banana balls to a serving plate (you may line it with paper towels if you wish so they absorb any excess oil).
  • Similarly fry all banana balls in multiple batches until the batter is all finished. Enjoy the delicious, fried banana bread balls while its is still warm!
