Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • salt adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil
  • black pepper powder a pinch or as needed for seasoning

Instructions

  • Add the butter to a good quality non stick pan or iron skillet (small or medium sized), and let it melt.
  • Gently crack the egg into the pan, sprinkle salt and cook in medium heat for about a minute.
  • For sunny side up egg with yolk intact, continue cooking in low heat (few more seconds) until the white is set and then carefully transfer the fried egg using a silicone spatula to a serving plate.
  • To make over easy egg, cook until the white is set and then carefully flip the egg and fry for another 5 to 10 seconds, then gently transfer the egg to a serving plate.
  • To make over medium egg, cook for another one more minute until the yolk is slightly more set than over easy egg (so the yolk is slightly runny but not as much runny like over easy) and then carefully flip the egg and cook for another 10 seconds. Carefully transfer the fried egg to a serving plate using a silicone spatula.
  • For over hard fried egg, either you can break the yolk using a fork or spoon or you can leave it intact based on your preference. Continue cooking until white is well cooked and also the egg yolks are well cooked which will take about 3 minutes time in medium low heat.
  • Once it is done, carefully flip the egg and lightly fry the other side of the egg too.
  • Transfer the fried egg to a serving dish.
  • Once the fried egg is transferred to the serving dish, sprinkle with seasonings like black pepper or any seasoning as you wish!
Serve with toast, pancakes, oatmeal etc for breakfast or lunch or serve with vegetables for a delicious, quick meal or snack.
You can also enjoy the fried egg as a side dish or topping with rice, noodles, pasta etc as you like for lunch or dinner.
