Ingredients

  • 2 large onions
  • salt adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds powder optional
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions

  • Slice the onions (I cut them in slightly thin long slices) and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and carefully add the onions (make sure there is no water in onions while you add them to hot oil). Also make sure you use a large sized pan or skillet or stirring will be difficult.
  • Add salt, cook in medium heat for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Stir the onions and continue cooking in medium low heat for about 6 to 7 minutes (stirring in between) until the onions start to turn soft in texture and become translucent or semi transparent.
  • Add lemon juice, spice powders, mix well with the onions.
  • Saute in high heat for another 4 to 5 minutes (if onions tend to burn you can reduce the heat to medium as needed) until the onions are well sauteed to your preference. Make sure to stir often to avoid burning the onions at the bottom of the pan and also adjust the heat as needed.
  • If necessary, you may add a little more oil and you may also add any of your favorite spices or seasonings.
  • Once the onions are sauteed to your liking, turn off heat and keep the pan in a cool place to avoid further cooking.
  • You can add the sauteed to any vegetable side dishes like bell peppers, potatoes etc or with rice, pasta etc or use it as a pizza topping, nachos topping or filling for sandwiches, tacos etc as you like! You may also enjoy this as a simple side dish with rice or any meal as you like!
