Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 black tea bags or masala chai bags
  • ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice may use little more for topping
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder may use little more for topping
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar or another sweetener, adjust to taste

Instructions

  • Add the milk, heavy cream, pumpkin puree, cinnamon powder, pumpkin pie spice, brown sugar and vanilla extract to a good quality blender and blend until very smooth and the mixture is frothy & creamy.

Stove top method

  • Add this mixture to a saucepan and heat the mixture while you stir often so the mixture doesn't burn at the bottom of the pan.
  • Once the mixture is about to boil, turn off the heat and transfer the saucepan to a cool place so the milk will not boil over.
  • Add black tea bags or masala chai bags to the hot milk mixture and let it steep for about 3 minutes.
  • Once the tea is steeped, discard the tea bags, gently stir the contents and transfer the prepared pumpkin tea latte or chai latte to serving mugs or cups, top with little more cinnamon powder and pumpkin spice if desired and enjoy immediately!

Microwave method

  • Once you have made the pumpkin mixture in the blender, transfer it to a large sized microwave safe mug and fill about half of the mug.
  • It is not a good idea to use small sized mugs or to fill upto almost the top of the mug, because when you microwave the contents, the milk may over boil and cause a mess in the microwave.
  • To avoid this, use a microwave safe mug or cup which is large enough so that you can fill the mug just up to about half of the mug, so the milk will not over boil inside the microwave while you heat it.
  • Once the milk is transferred to the mug, place it in the microwave and heat for about one minute and 30 seconds.
  • Once this is done, place the tea bags and steep the tea for about 3 minutes.
  • Once the tea is steeped, discard the tea bags, gently stir the latte, top with little more cinnamon powder and pumpkin spice if desired and serve immediately for best results!
  • If the latte needs to be reheated in case it's cooled more than your preference, you may reheat it in the microwave (in the same large sized microwave safe mug) for another 30 seconds or you may reheat it using a saucepan on stove top whichever method you prefer.

Alternate method

  • If you do not want to steep the tea bags at the last step, you may prepare the tea in advance and use it make the latte.
  • To do this, we can steep the tea directly in the milk itself and use it to make the latte.
  • I recommend not adding water to steep the tea, because that will thin down the latte, which will be way more creamier and flavorful if you just use milk.
  • If you do not want to use milk, you may use almond milk or cashew milk, to make this drink vegan.
  • However, make sure not to use water to steep the tea for this recipe!
  • To steep the tea early in the process, you can boil the milk and steep the tea or microwave the milk in a large sized microwave mug for about one minute and 30 seconds and then place the tea bags and steep the tea for about 3 minutes or upto 5 minutes for stronger flavor.
  • Then dicard the tea bags and use this prepared milk tea instead of milk, to make the pumpkin milk tea mixture in the blender.
  • That way, you can directly make pumpkin tea latte in the blender (since we use milk tea instead of milk), and then heat it in stove top or microwave as per the instructions above to make the delicious pumpkin spice tea latte or chai latt, which can be served immediately!
