Instant Pot Red Adzuki Beans

Easy, seasoned red adzuki beans beans in the instant pot makes delicious side dish with rice or you can use it as a filling for tacos, burrito bowls etc.

  • 2 cups adzuki beans dried small red adzuki beans
  • salt adjust to taste
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ cup dried minced onions optional
  • 1 teaspoon paprika or mild red chili powder
  • 3 cups water or broth 3 cups
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice


  • Wash the adzuki beans very well and add to the instant pot.
  • Also add salt, spice powders, lemon juice and water (or broth) to the instant pot. If using the dried minced onions, add that too.
  • Stir everything well.
  • Close the instant pot with lid in sealing position and cook in high pressure for 10 minutes.
  • Wait for a natural pressure release. If you are in a hurry, you may carefully do a gradual manual pressure release after about 15 minutes of natural pressure release.
  • Once the pressure is all released, carefully open the lid.
  • Stir the contents and see if the beans is cooked and soft. If there is any little water leftover in the pot, you may discard it or you may use it to make soup, curry, stews etc.
  • Serve the easy, delicious and nutritious seasoned red adzuki beans as a side dish with rice or you can use it to make bean soup, curry, chili etc as you like.
