If you wonder how how to layer lasagna noodles or how to assemble lasagna noodles to easily and quickly prepare lasagna for dinner, follow the below steps. Lasagna dinner is perfect for holidays like Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner or any day when you have guests or if you just want to prepare for yourself. Lasagna dinners will often result in leftovers too, and you may refrigerate the leftovers in fridge for another few more days or you may even freeze the lasagna and if done properly that can last for even more days.

It really doesn’t matter much how many layers of lasagna noodles you have, if you have enough sauce and cheese mixture to fill in between the layers and if you know how to perfectly layer the lasagna noodles!

The first step is to boil or cook the lasagna noodles.

If you use the barilla or any standard lasagna noodles from a package, you can easily follow the directions to boil the lasagna noodles first so the noodles can be cooked perfectly.

I usually use the barilla lasagna noodles which has 18 sheet of lasagna which is perfect to be used in a 13 by 9 inch baking pan for further preparations!

Once the lasagna noodles are boiled, they are ready for further preparation but applying a little olive oil in the boiled lasagna sheets will make the process of assembling much easier, since that will prevent the cooked noodles from sticking to each other.

Next step is layering the lasagna noodles.

For layering the lasagna noodles, you need to figure out what you need to fill in between the layers of the noodles based on the recipe you are following.

Most classic lasagna recipes use ricotta cheese based mixture (or cottage cheese) to fill in the layers of lasagna.

However, you may also make lasagna without ricotta cheese using other cheeses.

Once you decided on the cheese mixture to use for the lasgna noodles, you have to decide on the sauce you are going to use.

You can use any of your favorite pasta sauce for lasagna or you can use meatless vegetarian sauce to make meatless lasagna as well.

You can make your own homemade sauce too using marinara sauce or any tomato based sauce, yellow onions, bell peppers, seasonings etc.

Once you have decided on what sauce you want to use and what cheese mixture you want to use, you are all set to layer the lasagna noodles.

So here is how you can layer your lasagna noodles easily for baking in the oven, assuming you have boiled the lasagna noodles, and decided on the cheese mixture and also decided on the sauce you are going to use!

How To Layer Lasagna Noodles For Baking In Oven?

1st step – First step is to grease a baking pan (which is large enough to hold the lasagna noodles) with oil. A 13 by 9 inch baking pan is perfect if you are using 18 sheets of lasagna noodles.

2nd step – Add little sauce (a few spoons is enough) to the bottom of the greased baking pan.

3rd step – Place lasagna sheets in a single layer on top of the sauce mixture (with 13 by 9 inch baking pan, you will be able to place 3 lasagna sheets usually).

4th step – Add more sauce on top of the lasagna sheets.

5th step – Add cheese mixture (in a single layer or little more) on top of the sauce mixture spread over the lasagna sheets.

6th step – Place the next layer of lasagna noodles on top of the cheese mixture, in a single layer (as I mentioned early, 3 layers of lasagna noodles if you are using 13 by 9 inch baking pan).

(now we have used 6 lasagna sheets until now, keep in mind that we have a total of 18 sheets of lasagna noodles. In each layer, we are keeping 3 sheets of lasagna noodles, so will have 6 layers of lasagna noodles with 3 sheets of lasagna in each layer, once we are done!)

7th step – Repeat the process of adding more sauce

8th step – Repeat the process of adding more cheese mixture

9th step – Repeat the process of placing the next single layer of lasagna sheets using 3 lasagna sheets.

Now we have layered half of the lasagna since we have used up 9 lasagna sheets until now.

10 th step – Repeat the process by following the steps from step 4 until step 9 to add more sauce, cheese and remaining lasagna sheets until all sheets are used up!

11th step – Once the topmost layer of lasagna sheets are placed, add more sauce and cheese as you would want.

You can also add the cheese later (or add an initial layer of cheese and add more later) half way through the baking.

I usually use an oven temperature of 375 degree Fahrenheit and bake for about 30 to 35 minutes until done!
