Red Adzuki Beans Vs Red Kidney Beans

Both adzuki beans and kidney beans are red beans but they are not the same.

Adzuki beans is small red beans and it can be cooked much easier than red kidney beans, which is larger in size.

Adzuki beans can be cooked without soaking in water first (you may soak if you want the beans to be very soft in texture based on the recipe you are following), but red kidney beans need soaking in water prior to cooking.

Since kidney beans is larger in size, they need more water and more time for cooking.

Adzuki beans need less water and lesser time to cook, compared to kidney beans.

However, you can substitute adzuki beans for kidney beans (and vice versa) in many recipes, adjusting the cooking time and amount of water accordingly.

Red kidney beans is also popularly used in Indian cooking, where it is mostly known as rajma beans.
