what makes cookies cakey and soft in texture?

Whether you love the cakey texture in cookies or not, orif you wonder how to fix cakey cookies (if you don't love this texture), these are actually absolutely delicious cookies and easy to make and there's nothing to fix unless you really don't like them that way! The one thing that's usually common in cakey cookies or cookies with cake like texture is if you use a good amount of flour or cake mix flour (here we used 15.25 oz) and the cookie dough is actually not that firm but it's usually sticky in texture and you can scoop up the dough which is almost like a thick batter using a spoon and place them for baking in the cookie sheet. The regular classic cookies will usually have more firmer textured dough which you can roll or shape using your palms. However, for cakey cookies, the batter is usually not firm and sticky in nature. And for cakey cookies, we use less amount of fat (butter or oil though I prefer oil in this recipe) so thet won't spread much!

So if you want to know how to fix cakey cookies because you don't like them, the next time you may follow a classic cookie recipe like this chocolate chip cookie recipe with more balanced flour to fat ratio so the batter will be more firmer! However, if you love cakey cookies, do try this recipe for cakey chocolate chip cookies using cake mix and semi sweet chocolate chips!

ingredients used to make cakey chocolate chip cookies with cake mix:

yellow cake mix 15.25 oz (I used Duncan Hines cake mix)

semi sweet chocolate chips 1 cup

    eggs 2 large

    olive oil 2 tablespoons

    milk ¼ cup

    vanilla extract 1 teaspoon

step by step instructions to make cakey chocolate chip cookies with yellow cake mix

Step 1 - Place the yellow cake mix in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2 - In a different bowl, beat the eggs, add milk and vanilla extract and mix together.

Step 3 - Pour this wet ingredients mixture to the dry cake mix in the other bowl and mix well to combine using a spoon.

Step 4 - Also add the oil and chocolate chips, knead well to form the cookie dough. Let this cookie dough chill in the refrigerator for about an hour.

    To bake the cookies:

Step 5 - Preheat the oven to 350 degree Fahrenheit.

Step 6 - Prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step 7 - Scoop out a tablespoon of cookie dough and place it in the baking sheet. Similarly, do more and place 8 cookies at a time in the baking sheet, with enough space between.

Step 8 - Bake in the preheated oven for about 12 minutes until the cookies are done!

Step 9 - Once the cookies are baked (they will be very soft in texture at this point, but they will become the right texture as the cool down) immediately transfer from the hot oven and allow the cookies to cool down slightly.
