Sprinkle Sugar Cookies Using Nonpareil Sprinkles:
What are nonpareil sprinkles that are used in this sprinkle sugar cookies?
Nonpareil sprinkles are colorful, tiny ball shaped sprinkles you can easily use to decorate baked goods or desserts like cookies and cakes.
These nonpareil sprinkles are mainly made of sugar, color and starch andthey can be added to cookie doughs before baking or you can add them to frosting once the cookies are baked for easy decoration. However, the colors from the sprinkles may spread into the cookies (as you can see from the photos) if you add the sprinkles to the dough prior o baking, so if you don't want that to happen, you may add the sprinkles to the cookies after baking as well (however, adding sprinkles after baking is easier when the cookies have frosting or icing on them as the sprinkles will easily stick onto them).
In this recipe, I didn't use any frosting so I just added the sprinkles to the cookie dough and baked the cookies with sprinkles in it. Apart from nonpareil sprinkles, there are other varieties of sprinkles as well, like confetti, jimmies (tiny rod shaped sprinkles), dragees (larger round sprinkles), sanding sugar and many more so basically nonpareils sprinkles are identified by their tiny round sphere shape.
When baking with nonpareil sprinkles, it is important to understand that the colors bleed a little while you mix these tiny sprinkles with the cookie dough so that could show up in the cookies. If you don't want the colors to bleed, you have the option to add the sprinkles after baking or you can use confetti or jimmies which don't bleed a lot of color when mixed with the dough.
all purpose flour 1.5 cups
baking powder 1 teaspoon
butter ½ cup softened (1 stick)
sugar ¾ cup
milk ⅓ cup
½ cup sprinkles (I used nonpareil sprinkles)
vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
cinnamon powder ½ teaspoon (optional)

Step 1 - Place the all purpose flour in a large bowl.
Step 2 - Add baking powder and cinnamon powder (if using) to the bowl, mix well to evenly combine with the flour.

Step 3 - Combine softened butter and sugar in a different bowl.

Step 4 - Add milk and vanilla extract to the butter sugar mixture and mix well to combine.

Step 5 - Add the prepared butter sugar mixture to the dry ingredients bowl and stir well to combine with the flour mixture. Make sure there is no dry flour left at the bottom of the bowl.

Step 6 - Add the rainbow sprinkles also to the bowl and mix well to combine evenly, knead well with your hands to form the cookie dough.

Step 7 - Let the cookie dough chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
To bake the cookies:
Step 8 - Preheat oven to 350 degree Fahrenheit.
Step 9 - Prepare a large baking sheet by lining with parchment paper.
Step 10 - To make the cookies, make small balls out of the cookie dough and place the dough balls in the baking sheet (if the dough is sticky, you may apply a little oil to your palms to make the job easier). The cookies will spread as they bake so I recommend placing only 8 cookie balls at a time in the baking sheet (you can bake the remaining cookies in a second batch). Make sure to leave enough space between the cookie balls.

Step 11 - Once the cookie balls are arranged in the baking sheet, place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the cookies for 12 to 13 minutes until they are almost done.
Step 12 - After the baking time, immediately tansfer the cookies from the hot oven to avoid over baking.

Step 13 - Once the cookies are right out of the oven they are too hot and too soft in texture, but the cookies will continue to harden as they cool down so make sure to wait until they are cooled so you can enjoy them with a cup of coffee, milk or tea as you like!
