    Caprese salad sandwich is the perfect, easy salad for breakfast or snack, if you have fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil leaves etc! You can use garden fresh ingredients like tomatoes, basil leaves etc from your garden or make sure to use fresh store bought ingredients.

    The best thing about caprese salad sandwich is that you can make the salad ahead and enjoy it as a salad itself or you can use any leftovers to make this filling and delicious caprese salad sandwich. Basically, a caprese salad sandwich uses caprese salad as the filling for the sandwich. You can either make the salad fresh to use in the sandwich (which is great) but you can also use already made leftover salad to use in the sandwich. In this recipe, we use the leftover caprese salad to use in the sandwich!

    main ingredients and substitutes for caprese sandwich:

    bread: you can use any bread of your choice, but make sure to use toasted bread for the best, crunchy texture. You may use sourdough bread, artisan bread, frech bread etc but here I just used plain white sandwich bread that is toasted which works great as well.

    I had homemade caprese salad which I used in this recipe. But you can use fresh ingredients to quickly make the salad to use as the fillings.

    In general, we need sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh basil leaves and balsamic vinegar or balsamic glaze, olive oil etc to make the salad. You can use any fresh tomatoes to make the salad, but I had the small sized grape tomatoes which I used.

    To make caprese salad sandwich, we use the following ingredients.

    • caprese salad 6 tablespoons
    • toasted bread slices 3
    • ranch dressing 2 tablespoons
    • ground black pepper ¼ teaspoon (optional)

    step by step instructions

    • Place the first slice of toasted bread slice on a serving plate.
    • Spread one tablespoon of ranch dressing on top of the bread slice.
    • Add 3 tablespoons of caprese salad on top of the bread slice. Make sure you include all ingredients in the salad evenly across the bread slice (tomatoes, cheese and basil).
    • Sprinkle little black pepper powder on top (if using).
    • Place the second slice of bread on top of the first bread slice, add the remaining ranch dressing on top.
    • Place the remaining 3 tablespoons of caprese salad on top of the second slice of bread as well. Also sprinkle little black pepper powder on top (if you wish).
    • Place the 3rd slice of toasted bread on top on the sandwich gently pressing down, make sure not to let the caprese salad ingredients fall out.
    • Enjoy the delicious caprese salad sandwich immediately for best results!
