Since cheese is an important ingredient here, it really makes a difference in the taste of the mac and cheese.

The taste of the mac and cheese much depends on the kind of cheese that you use, so make sure to use your favorite cheese for mac and cheese to suit to your preference.

I have used Mexican four cheese blend to make this mac and cheese, which works well but you can just use sharp cheddar or another cheese that you like to use in mac and cheese recipes.

How Long To Cook Mac And Cheese In Instant Pot?

This is a one pot recipe which means we only use one pot to cook the mac and cheese (here it is the instant pot), and we cook the elbow pasta for 1 minute in high pressure, to make the mac and cheese in instant pot.

However, once the instant pot is turned on and we set the timer, the instant pot will take some minutes to come to pressure and also once the cooking is done, we need to allow about 14 minutes for natural pressure release before we can manually release any remaining pressure.

After this is done, we also need to add cheese, milk and other remaining ingredients to complete the cooking process which is explained in the recipe in detail!

So here is how you can make easy, delicious and creamy mac and cheese in the instant pot.

How To Make Instant Pot Mac And Cheese?

To make creamy, delicious and easy mac and cheese in the instant pot, we use the following ingredients.

ingredients

elbow macaroni 16 oz

water 4 cups

shredded cheese 3 cups (I used Mexican cheese blend)

salt adjust to taste

onion powder 1 teaspoon

dried minced onion ½ cup (optional)

garlic powder 1 teaspoon

whole milk 1 cup (chilled) may need little more

heavy cream ½ cup (chilled)

butter 4 tablespoons

olive oil 2 tablespoons

Step by step instructions

Place the elbow macaroni pasta in the instant pot.

Also add salt, minced onion, garlic powder and onion powder to the instant pot.

Add the water and mix well to combine with the pasta and seasonings.

Place the butter (preferrably sliced) on top.

Close the instant pot with lid in sealing position, cook in high pressure for one minute.

When the cooking is done, press the cancel button and let the pressure release naturally for about 14 minutes.

Once it’s done, carefully release the remaining pressure manually and gradually.

Once the pressure is all released, carefully open the instant pot.

Add olive oil, chilled heavy cream and milk, gently mix in to combine with the pasta.

Add the shredded cheese also to the instant pot and mix to combine. Enjoy the delicious and creamy mac and cheese with any sides like vegetables, corn or just enjoy it as it is!

Notes: Mac and cheese absorbs the sauce and thickens as it sits for more time.

To keep it creamy, add a little more chilled milk or cream (about 2 to 3 tablespoons) as it cools down to maintain the consistency of the dish.
