how much juice in one orange?
If you are using one regular, medium sized orange you can make about ⅓ cup of pure, fresh orange juice.
If the size of the orange is smaller, you can obtain about ¼ cup of fresh orange juice from 1 orange. This is without adding any water and you can obtain the juice more easily using a juicer if you do not want to add any water. You can also squeeze out the juice using hands, or you can use blender to make the juice. To make one cup of fresh orange juice (without adding any water), which is equivalent to one serving of orange juice you will need 3 to 4 oranges depending on the size of oranges that you use.
If using small sized oranges like mandarin oranges, the amount of juice could be even lesser but mandarin oranges are usually very juicy so it depends. Keep in mind that these are only estimates, the amount of juice that you obtain from oranges can vary slightly based on the kind of orange that you use and also the size of the orange.
In this orange juice recipe we use only three oranges to make two servings of juice, because we add water and also lemon juice in the making. If you decide not to use any water or lemon juice in the recipe, you can make one serving of fresh orange juice from the recipe.
should you add water while making orange juice?
I actually prefer adding water while making orange juice, and I actually find it more refreshing than just the fruit juice.
It is a personal preference, and so you will see that I have used water in this recipe for orange juice. Whenever, I make orange juice with no water or less water, I usually thin it down by adding little more water to my preference.
Because I find pure orange juice made in a blender or a juice too strong in flavor for my preference and also more acidic in nature. However, when I make orange juice just by squeezing the oranges (not by a blender or juicer), I see that the orange juice made from squeezing the oranges is kind of thin on its own and it's perfect consistency for me without adding any extra water as well. When I make the juice in the blender, like in this recipe, I almost always use water to make the juice. I am sure many will disagree with me on this, as I have seen people disagreeing about adding water to juice, because it will thin down the fresh juice and it will also lessen the flavor.
In this orange juice recipe, I am also adding a bit of lemon which will increase the flavor of the juice, and so you will not feel any less flavor really. You may also use little more lemon if you like. If you wish to reduce the amount of water, you may just blend the fruits with little water, only as needed, and just pass it through a fine mesh strainer. Or you may not add water at all, if that is your preference.
So here is how we can make delicious orange juice in a blender.
