Of course, you can easily make a delicious bowl of oatmeal porridge the old fashioned way on stove top using oats, sugar and milk, which is very good.

    However you really do not needs sugar in your oatmeal to make it taste good or delicious.

    You can even make plain oatmeal with water (without milk) taste good by using the right natural sweetener and/or spices like cinnamon powder. There are many ways you can make your oatmeal taste so good without using sugar from easily available ingredients and they are so easy to put together and makes a delicious, healthy and quick breakfast for busy weekday mornings or lazy weekend mornings! You can try flavored oatmeal without sugar or you can add natural sweeteners like pure fresh maple syrup or raw honey (if not using for babies) which will instantly make oatmeal taste better without sugar. You can even make oatmeal taste good with plain water without using milk by using natural sweetners, fruits etc!

    I almost always use pure fresh maple syrup or raw honey instead of white sugar in my oatmeal which add more flavor and sweetness than white sugar. If you haven't tried yet, try adding maple syrup or raw honey and see how you like it. Most of the time the plain oatmeal prepared in just water without using milk also taste delicious and great, but you may add milk if you wish! My most favorite combination with honey and oats is peanut butter as it tastes heavenly when you combine the three - raw honey, peanut butter and oatmeal.

    For half a cup of oatmeal, cook with a cup of milk (if you do not want it to be free of milk or dairy products) and add a tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of peanut butter. If you want more sweetness you may add a little more pure honey and it will just taste so much delicious. Along with honey or maple syrup, you can also try other nut butters like cashew butter or almond butter as you like. Adding fresh fruits or dried fruits is another great way to make your oatmeal taste better or great without sugar.

    My favorite combination is fresh apples and cinnamon powder along with a hint of honey but I also love the combination of fresh blueberries, raisins, dates etc. Adding exotic spices too make oatmeal tastes better, good and great! My favorite spices for oatmeal are organic cinnamon powder (which is especially great with apples), pumpkin spice, ginger powder etc.

    These are some of my favorite things to add more flavor to the oatmeal without using sugar. You can use one of these or more than one of these ingredients or oatmeal toppings to make your oatmeal taste so good. Some of these ingredients can be paired together to make an amazingly delicious oatmeal.

    For example cinnamon & apples make a wonderful combination and my most favorite combination is peanut butter and honey 🙂 though I love to pair up different ingredients based on what I have at the time and what I want to eat.

    Sweetners:

    • pure fresh maple syrup
    • honey
    • stevia

    spices or flavors:

    • cinnamon powder
    • vanilla extract

    fruits:

    you can add any of these fruits or you can add your favorite fruits chopped or sliced or mashed or you can even use fruit juices. chopped apples - you can add them if you bake your oatmeal or you cook them on your stove top or simply add chopped apples to your microwave oatmeal as you please! A little cinnamon powder paired with apples is the perfect combination.

    • sliced bananas or mashed bananas
    • grapes
    • blueberries
    • strawberries
    • raspeberries
    • blackberries
    • pineapples - sliced or canned

    Nuts & Nut Butters:

    Adding your favorite nuts add crunchiness to your oatmeal, and also they add more healthy nutrients along with the delicious, rich flavors.

    • chopped almonds
    • cashews
    • chopped pecans
    • peanut butter
    • almond butter
    • cashew butter

    Seeds:

    • flax seeds - add them while you cook the oats
    • chia seeds - they can just be added or blended into your oatmeal or you can soak them in water or milk (if using milk if fine for you) in advance for the best flavor & texture
    • sunflower seeds - add crunchiness, flavor and texture and also healthy nutrients
    • pumpkin seeds
