Maple syrup is a natural sweetener and a comparatively healthy alternative to refined sugar in recipes.

Pure fresh maple syrup is a great choice to sweeten dishes like oatmeal, drinks, cookies etc.

I have used maple syrup as a sweetener in many delicious recipes like this peanut butter milkshake, peanut butter maple cookies, vegan oatmeal without milk and more.

Maple syrup goes great with peanut butter so I like to pair maple syrup with peanut butter in many recipes.

So I wanted try maple syrup with this walnut milkshake as well, and it turned out great as well!

Tips to make milkshake healthy

protein milkshake with walnuts healthy

Milkshakes are dessert like calorie rich sweet drinks made with milk, ice cream, sugar, cream etc.

Some milkshake recipes also use fruits, nuts, syrups also in the recipe.

To make a milkshake healthy, the first thing that helps is to replace the ice cream with something creamy and delicious, naturally.

When we use ingredients like walnuts, peanut butter, almonds, almond butter etc, the milkshake will naturally become more creamy in texture.

Using fruits like strawberries, mangoes etc will also help to make creamy, thick milkshakes without using ice creams.

Another tip to make the milkshake more healthy is to replace white refined sugar with something natural like a natural sweetener.

Pure fresh maple syrup, honey, stevia etc are great options to naturally sweeten the milkshakes.

While the milkshakes prepared with natural sweeteners still are sweet and have sugar content, this is comparatively more healthier than milkshakes prepared in the traditional way using refined sugar.

Also, while making healthy milkshakes, you can use skim low fat or even fat free milk instead of whole milk to make it more healthy.

Following all these tips will help you to make healthy, delicious milkshakes that are comparatively low in calories and naturally sweet and creamy.

So here is how you can make this easy, delicious maple walnut milkshake at home.

Keep in mind that this milkshake is sweetened with pure fresh maple syrup which is a natural sweetener, but still it’s a sweetener and has sugar content in it.

Can you make maple walnut milkshake vegan?

Yes, you may make this milkshake vegan as well.

To make this recipe vegan, replace the milk with walnut milk or use other plant based milk alternatives like almond milk, oat milk, cashew milk, coconut milk etc.

The flavor of the vegan walnut milkshake will also depend on the kind of plant based milk that you use, but it will still be delicious.

Can you replace walnuts with other nuts?

You may try to replace walnut with other nuts for a different flavor and texture if you wish.

Other suitable options include cashews, blanched almonds etc.

Different nuts give different texture and flavor for the milkshake and while walnuts can be directly used to make milkshake, it is best to soak some nuts in water or milk prior to adding them in drinks so that they will be softened.

If using other nuts, you may try soaking them in milk or water or you may also strain the milkshake once prepared to remove any nut residue.
