how long to boil duck eggs?

I made these boiled duck eggs in the instant pot pressure cooker but you may make it on stove top using a medium sized saucepan as well. In instant pot pressure cooker, you just need to boil the duck eggs for 8 minutes to make perfect, boiled eggs with hard boiled yolk texture that is not runny but completely cooked and dry. Just like the boiled chicken eggs I made before using instant pot, I made these boiled eggs in the instant pot without steamer rack or trivet by placing them directy in the inner pot of the instant pot. If you are making the boiled eggs on stove top using a saucepan or pot, make sure to place the eggs in a single layer at the bottom, add water to cover the eggs, bring the water to a boil, then cover with lid and cook in low heat for 8 minutes immediately followed by an ice water bath to make perfect hard boiled duck eggs.

boiled duck eggs vs chicken eggs

The most noticeable difference between duck eggs and chicken eggs is in the appearance itself. I think they look like they have thinner whites and larger yolks but it is just my observation though and I am not sure if it varies with the breeds!

    duck eggs

I have noticed that duck eggs are more delicate to handle and feels lighter compared to chicken eggs. We usually don't find duck eggs very often but when we find them in the local farmer's fresh markets we buy them which is not very often. Whenever we have the chance to buy duck eggs, we usually hard boil the eggs because I think that is the best way to cook duck eggs to make them taste delicious and also, it is easy to use hard boiled eggs in other recipes like sandwiches, curry, salads etc! When making hard boiled eggs, the egg yolks of the duck eggs appear to be more bright yellow in color than chicken eggs.

    hard boiled duck eggs

The hard boiled duck eggs are just as tasty as boiled chicken eggs and perfect to be used in recipes calling for hard boiled eggs including egg curry, egg sandwich and more! The color of duck eggs (the color of the shells outside) also is also sometimes different from chicken eggs. While chicken eggs are usually just white or brown eggs, the duck eggs come in quite a few different shades of colors. Brown eggs and white eggs are available but many of those look pale white in color and some of the eggs also look pale blue, green etc as well. This usually has nothing to do with taste and they all usually taste the same and delicious, so just make sure you are using good quality eggs since color of the shells is not really an indicator here about the freshness of the eggs.
