    what are cherry plums?

    cherry plums

Cherry plums are small sized plum fruits, just like cherry tomatoes are small sized tomatoes! Cherry plums known as Prunus cerasifera or myrobalan plums are common in Georgia where they are used to make Tkemali plum sauce.

These fruits are much similar or identical in size to cherries and they have pits, so you need to remove the pits before using them in any recipes using cherry plums including this smoothie recipe. Because of the stone like pits they have, cherry plums are also a type of stone fruits, just like other stone fruits including regular plums, cherries, peaches etc.

The taste of cherry plums is generally very similar to the taste of regular plums, mildly sweet and tart (sour), though I often find them more tastier than regular plums and they are easy to just snack on if you are mindful about the seeds/pits which need to be removed. The skin of the cherry plums is edible as well so you don't need to remove or peel the skin prior to using in this smoothie recipe.
