Homemade easy, quick pina colada from canned pineapples & coconut milk without using alcohol for a delicious pineapple drink that tastes like a smoothie!

This pina colada smoothie or pineapple coconut milk smoothie is made without using bananas or yogurt and it’s dairy free as well, since we only use coconut milk & pineapple to make the smoothie.

The pina colada drink without alcohol popularly known as virgin pina colada and it is so delicious with the fruity tropical flavors which both adults & kids can enjoy!

Though this is alcohol free, we use vanilla extract (which may contain a tiny amount of alcohol in the small 1 teaspoon amount we use in the recipe depending on the brand you use, as you probably already know) for flavoring.

Pina colada is popularly enjoyed during hot summer months as fresh pineapple is in season and available throughout summer, however you can enjoy this pina colada with canned pineapples during other times of the year as well, and this makes the perfect holiday drink as well!

What Is Pina Colada?

Pina colada is a delicious tropical flavored drink traditonally made with fresh pineapples, coconut & alcohol as the main ingredients, so it is basically a cocktail as it is made with fruit & alcohol.

However, this easy, kid friendly pina colada drink is made without alcohol and so both adults and kids can enjoy this delicious drink alike!

What Is Non Alcoholic Pina Colada? Pina Colada Drink Without Alcohol

Non alcoholic pina colada is easy, kid friendly pina colada drink made without using rum, which is usually used to make pina colada.

This kind of alcohol free pina colada is popularly referred as virgin pina colada and it is a very delicious pineapple drink if you prefer drinks without alcohol.

As I mentioned early, we use little vanilla extract for flavor which may have some alcohol content in it as you probably know.

If you want it completely alcohol free, you might skip vanilla extract as well or use a brand which doesn’t have it.

By saying this pina colada smoothe is made without alcohol, we only mean we do not add any additional alcohol like rum, which is traditionally used in pina coladas!

Pina colada without alcohol is much like a delicious pineapple coconut milk smoothie which is the perfect refreshing drink for hot summer months or anytime when you want a cooling, refreshing, creamy drink!

Pina colada is mostly made using fresh pineapples, but I am using canned pineapples here (pineapple chunks in pineapple juice) which is easy to find year round and so you can enjoy pina colada anytime you want.

If you have fresh, ripe pineapple, you may substitute the canned pineapple with fresh pineapples too.

So here is how you can make this easy, creamy, refreshing homemade pina colada without alcohol.

How to make non alcoholic pina colada coconut smoothie?

To make easy, quick non alcoholic pina colada, we use the following ingredients.

As you see, the main two ingredients are pineapples & coconut milk!

pineapple 8 oz can (with chunks of pineapple in pineapple juice, you can use just about one cup of fresh, ripe pineapple instead) — chilled

thick coconut milk ½ cup (I used unsweetened thai coconut milk which is perfect) — chilled

vanilla extract 1 teaspoon

honey 2 tablespoon (or use sugar or brown sugar)

pineapple juice or chilled water ¼ cup

ice cubes 2 to 3 (optional)

maraschino cherries or pineapple wedges 1 to 2 for garnishing (or as you like)

Step by step instructions

Place the canned pineapple (sliced pineapple along with the juice in the can) in a high power blender (If using fresh pineapple slices, you can add that).

Also add the thick coconut milk (or coconut cream) & vanilla extract & honey.

Add the chilled pineapple juice or chilled water & also the ice cubes (if using) in the blender.

Blend the contents until very smooth, creamy and frothy.

Transfer the prepared pina colada drink to glass cup and garnish with maraschino cherries or pineapple wedges.

Enjoy immediately for best results! If you keep the pina colada smoothie in warm room temperature for more time, the smoothie may curdle and lose it’s texture, so make sure to serve this immediately as soon as it is prepared!

How long does pina colada smoothie lasts?

Pina colada pineapple coconut smoothie needs to be immediately refrigerated, if not enjoying right after preparation, for the best results.

Once ready to serve, mix with a spoon or blend the smoothie again in the blender for a smooth texture.

You may store this drink in the refrigerator for a couple of days, if stored properly in containers or glass jars or pitchers.

For longer storage, you may transfer the smoothie to ice cube trays and store in the freezer for some more time.
