Al dente noodles means the noodles are just cooked enough so they are edible and safe to eat, however, they are not cooked further to be softer in texture.

How long to boil egg noodles al dente?
Every variety of noodle is different and different types of noodles may have different boiling times, though some noodles may have the same time as well.
Here we use the extra wide egg noodles and we need to boil the noodles for about 6 minutes in boiling water to make al dente noodles.
So here is how you can make easy, buttery and delicious al dente noodles using extra wide egg noodles.
How to make buttered al dente noodles with extra wide egg noodles?
To make easy, delicious buttered al dente noodles with extra wide egg noodles, we use the following ingredients.

extra wide egg noodles 12 oz
water 4 to 6 quartz
salt as needed
olive oil 1 tablespoon
butter 4 to 6 tablespoons
black pepper 1 teaspoon
garlic 2 to 3 cloves freshly minced or use 1 teaspoon garlic powder
onion powder 1 teaspoon
dried parsley leaves 1 teaspoon
shredded cheese (I use mexican blend or cheddar) 2 cups, optional
pasta sauce 2 cups (marinara or any pasta sauce of your choice), optional
Step by step instructions
To cook al dente noodles:
Add water to a large pot or saucepan and bring the water to a boil.
Once the water is boiling well, carefully add the extra wide egg noodles.
Also add salt and olive oil, stir and cook in medium to high heat for 6 minutes (check the package directions to see the cooking time they suggest for making al dente noodles, if it is different than 6 minutes, then follow the instructions in the package).
Make sure to keep the timer on, so you do not overcook the noodles.
Stir the noodles a couple of times, while the noodles is cooking.
Once the timer goes off, gently stir the noodles, see if it's cooked (it will further soften as it cools down), and turn off the heat.
Carefully drain the remaining hot water from the pot and transfer the cooked al dente noodles to a different bowl or you can transfer it to a large skillet or pan for making a meal out of the al dente noodles.
To make buttered noodles from al dente noodles:
Melt butter in a large skillet or pan and add the garlic and stir fry.
Aslo add the noodles and onion powder and stir fry for about a minute (if you have already added the noodles to the skillet, you can also add the butter and garlic directly to the noodles and then heat to stir fry the contents together).
Add the dried parsley leaves and black pepper powder, gently mix in to combine with the noodles, serve hot!
If using the shredded cheese, you can add that too and mix in with the noodles.
Also sprinkle more black pepper if you like!
