Factors - Type, Size, Variety Of Red Or Yellow Potatoes

how long to bake potatoes at 400

Baking times vary depending on the type, size and variety of red or yellow potatoes (or purple colored potatoes) that you are using.

Also it depends on if you are trying to bake the whole potatoes or if you are trying to roast diced potatoes.

For example, the baking time for baby red or yellow potatoes will be different from regular sized red or yellow potatoes.

Also, the baking time will be different for diced red or yellow potatoes than whole red or yellow potatoes.

So basically, the size matters the most whether they are diced or whole, in determining how long you need to bake the red potatoes at 400 degree Fahrenheit in the oven.

Baking time for regular sized whole red or yellow potatoes (or purple potatoes) at 400

If you use regular sized, whole red or yellow potatoes or purple color potatoes, you have to bake the potatoes for about 55 to 60 minutes until they are cooked completely on the inside with a soft, tender texture. I

If you are baking whole potatoes, it is important that you pierce the potatoes with a knife at several places before placing them in the hot oven. This is important for safety reasons and also ensures the potatoes bake evenly.

The size of regular sized red or yellow potatoes can change from medium to large sized potatoes, so if the potatoes are on the larger side, it could take a few more minutes until completely done but usually they are done in a hour however depending on the size the it might take a few more minutes when you bake at 400.

To know if the whole roasted potatoes are done and tender, you can pierce the baked potatoes with a fork and see if they pierce easily through the potatoes.

If the fork doesn't pierce through easily, make sure to bake for few more minutes until they are done.

It is a good idea to wrap the potatoes in aluminium foil while baking whole potatoes to make sure they are baked evenly on the surface and also to avoid the potatoes burning on the surface when you have to bake them for longer time.

If the potatoes are medium sized, it is a good idea to check the potatoes at about 45 minutes time to see if they are done.

The baking times can also depend on the oven you use since the oven temperatures may slightly vary, so if you are baking potatoes for the first time in your new oven it is a good idea to check in a few minutes early.

Baking time for whole small baby red or yellow potatoes (or purple potatoes) at 400

If you are baking whole small sized baby red or yellow potatoes (or purple) also, make sure to pierce the potatoes using a knife at several parts before placing them in the hot oven.

You need to bake the baby red or yellow potatoes for about 35 to 40 minutes usually, if your oven is preheated to 400 degree Fahrenheit.

As I said early, it all depends on the size of the potatoes and the oven heat, so it could take a few more minutes or less as well so it is a good idea to check at the mark of 35 minutes to see if they are done.

Roasting diced red or yellow potatoes at 400 degree

Whether you bake baby red or yellow potatoes or regular sized potatoes, if you dice the potatoes into medium or small sized cubes (not too small), you will need to bake the potatoes for about 25 to 30 minutes until they are done, well roasted and browned on the edges!

So here we will see an easy recipe for baked potatoes at 400 degree Fahrenheit in the oven.

How to make baked mixed red, yellow, purple potatoes at 400 degree Fahrenheit in oven?

how long to bake potatoes at 400

To bake red, yellow and purple mixed potatoes in the oven at 400 degree, we first use the following ingredients to make seasoned potatoes that are ready to bake.

I used a mixed bag of small sized peewee potatoes including red potatoes, yellow potatoes and purple potatoes, but you can just use any one color like small red potatoes, yellow potatoes or purple potatoes in the recipe.

If using regular or large sized red potatoes or yellow potatoes (or purple), you can adjust the timing based on the above timing I have given in the post for different sized potatoes.

ingredients used:

small red potatoes or bag of mixed potatoes (I used red, yellow and purple peewee potatoes) 1 lbs

salt adjust to taste

garlic powder 2 teaspoons

oil 2 tablespoons

Optional ingredients:

black pepper or any seasonings of your choice 1 teaspoon or adjust as preferred

Step by step instructions

Preheat oven to 400 degree Fahrenheit.

Wash the small potatoes very well and scrub if necessary. Pierce the potatoes with a knife at several places on the surface.

Place the potatoes in a large sized bowl.

Add oil and seasonings, mix well to coat with the potatoes.

Prepare a baking sheet by lining with good quality aluminium foil (do not recommend using parchment paper in this recipe as we bake at 400 degree which is typically higher temperature for using parchment).

Arrange the seasoned potatoes in a single layer in the lined baking sheet.

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes until the potatoes are fork tender.

Once the potatoes are baked, transfer the baked potatoes from the hot oven immediately and let it cool down a bit.

Instructions to bake large red potatoes (or yellow/purple potatoes):

Place in the preheated oven for about 55 to 60 minutes or until the potatoes are well baked and fork tender.

Instructions to roast diced potatoes in cubes:
