Cabbage is an easy vegetable to prepare and you can cook cabbage in many different ways. However sauteed cabbage and onions is much easier than the fried cabbage dish, since we just quickly tear the cabbage leaves and saute them along with onions for just a few minutes, however both dishes tastes great!

You just need to saute both cabbage and onions together for about 3 to 4 minutes in high heat and another 1 to 2 minutes in medium heat to make the best sauteed cabbage and onions!
how to make sauteed cabbage and onions on stove top using a pan or skillet?

ingredients used to make sauteed cabbage and onions

cabbage ½ of small green cabbage
onions 2 medium sized
salt adjust to taste
oil 4 tablespoons
Optional ingredients:
black pepper powder ½ teaspoon
garlic powder ½ teaspoon
soy sauce 1 teaspoon
red chili flakes ½ teaspoon (if you want it more spicier)
lemon juice ½ teaspoon
step by step instructions to make sauteed cabbage and onions
Step 1 - Wash the cabbage well (remove any outer leaves if needed) and slice or tear the leaves in small to medium sized pieces. I just teared them roughly.
Step 2 - Slice the onions and add them to a pan. Also add the teared cabbage leaves.
Step 3 - Add oil and salt, cook in high heat for about a minute. Stir well and saute the cabbage and onions for a couple of minutes more until the onions are beginning to brown and caramelize but don't do it for longer as we don't want to lose the crunchy texture of both onions and cabbage.


Step 4 - Finally, if you want to add any optional ingredients listed, add them too, stir well and cook for another 1 minute in medium heat, transfer to serving plates and serve hot with rice or serve with pasta or you can use them for sandwich fillings, wraps, salads etc!

how to store sauteed cabbage and onions?
Sauteed cabbage and onions tastes the best when it's served right off the pan as soon as it's cooked while it's still hot! However, you may transfer the dish to an air tight food container and store in refrigerator for about 2 to 3 days and reheat as necessary!
