Sauteed cabbage and onions makes such an easy, quick, healthy and delicious cabbage side dish for dinner or lunch, if you like the taste of cooked cabbage!

Cabbage is an easy vegetable to prepare and you can cook cabbage in many different ways. If you like easy, delicious cabbage recipes, I have this fried caramelized cabbage with onions, cabbage and eggs breakfast scramble, boiled cabbage leaves, instant pot cabbage, easy cabbage cooked on stove top, red kidney bean cabbage soup and more!

Sauteeing onions along with cabbage makes it extra delicious (and nutritious) as cabbage and onions pair very well together that's why there are more dishes using cabbage and onions like this fried caramelized cabbage and onions (meatless without bacon) that makes a wonderful cabbage side dish! However sauteed cabbage and onions is much easier than the fried cabbage dish, since we just quickly tear the cabbage leaves and saute them along with onions for just a few minutes, however both dishes tastes great!

    sauteed cabbage and onions

ingredients used to make sauteed cabbage and onions

    sauteed cabbage and onions

cabbage ½ of small green cabbage

    onions 2 medium sized

    salt adjust to taste

    oil 4 tablespoons

    Optional ingredients:

    garlic powder ½ teaspoon

    soy sauce 1 teaspoon

    lemon juice ½ teaspoon

step by step instructions to make sauteed cabbage and onions

Step 1 - Wash the cabbage well (remove any outer leaves if needed) and slice or tear the leaves in small to medium sized pieces. I just teared them roughly.

Step 2 - Slice the onions and add them to a pan. Also add the teared cabbage leaves.

Step 3 - Add oil and salt, cook in high heat for about a minute. Stir well and saute the cabbage and onions for a couple of minutes more until the onions are beginning to brown and caramelize but don't do it for longer as we don't want to lose the crunchy texture of both onions and cabbage.
