Sunny Side Up Vs Over Easy Eggs

    sunny side up eggs

Sunny side up and over easy eggs are both fried eggs but they are slightly different.

While over easy eggs are flipped and lightly fried in oil or butter on both sides, sunny side up eggs are fried on only one side (the bottom side).

As a result, the yolks of the over easy eggs are usually covered by a thin layer of whites while the sunny side up eggs yolks are visible and intact.

The similarity between sunny side up eggs and over easy eggs is that both have yolks that are runny in texture, once you break the yolks with a fork or knife perfect for those who love the toast to soak up all the gooey liquid from the yolks!

Enjoy these fried eggs with toast for breakfast or brunch or you can serve them along with pancakes, oatmeal etc as you like or serve them with your favorite vegetables for a delicious, healthy meal!

How To Make Sunny Side Up Eggs?

    sunny side up eggs

To make sunny side up eggs, we use the following ingredients.

    Ingredients used

2 large eggs (may use upto 3 eggs)

    butter or oil 1 tablespoon

    salt adjust to taste

black pepper powder ⅛ teaspoon (optional, adjust to your preference)

    Step by step instructions

Add butter or oil to a heated good quality non stick pan (small or medium sized) or iron skillet and let it melt.

Carefully crack the eggs into the pan (so the yolks are not broken and will remain intact while cooking) and let it cook in medium heat for about a minute (I usually fry one egg or two eggs or a maximum three eggs at a time).

    making sunny side up eggs

Reduce the heat to low, sprinkle enough salt and cook for another 30 to 40 more seconds until the whites are completely set (if you cook for more time, the yolks can harden so it is important to stop cooking at this point to keep the egg yolk texture runny).

making sunny side up eggs in frying pan

Carefully transfer the sunny side up eggs on to a serving dish.

Make sure to use a large silicone spatula for easy transfer of eggs without breaking the yolk.

If it's difficult for you to transfer multiple eggs to the serving plate without breaking the yolk, you can gently separate the eggs where the whites have joined using the spatula or a spoon and transfer each eggs individually to the serving plate.

Season with black pepper (if you want) and more salt if you wish and serve immediately along with toast, pancakes, vegetables etc.

You may also add more seasonings of your choice if you like!

Tips To Make The Best Sunny Side Up Fried Eggs

    sunny side up fried eggs

To make the best sunny side up fried eggs, follow the below tips:

Use large, fresh eggs to make sunny side up eggs.

Use a good quality non stick pan or use iron skillet to make the eggs. Whichever you decide to choose, it is a good idea to use small sized or medium sized pans so the eggs won't spread too much while you crack the eggs onto the pan.

Keep the heat at medium while you start cooking and reduce the heat to low and continue cooking as the whites set in until done.

Use a large silicone spatula to transfer the fried eggs carefully without breaking the yolks as the texture of the eggs are runny and not set.

If you are a beginner and if you are frying multiple eggs at a time, gently separate the fried eggs where they are joined along the egg whites so you can transfer them individually and more successfully (to serving plates).

Season generously with salt, pepper or any seasonings of your choice for best flavors!

Serve the fried sunny side up eggs along with toast, pancakes, oatmeal etc for lunch or brunch or you can add them to a sandwich or serve along with noodles, fried spaghetti, rice, pasta etc as you wish for lunch or dinner.
