strawberry yogurt for fruit flavored smoothie bowls and parfaits

This easy, simple strawberry yogurt makes delicious fruit flavored yogurt that is perfect for a side dish, breakfast, dessert or enjoy this as a smoothie or sweetened fruit flavored yogurt drink.

You can use fresh strawberries to make the fruit flavored yogurt from scratch or you may use already made strawberry sauce or strawberry compote or even roasted strawberry sauce to make this strawberry flavor yogurt.

Two main ingredients to make strawberry yogurt

Strawberries: I recommend using fresh yogurt for the juicy, fresh flavor and sweetness from the berries though you may use frozen berries as well.

Yogurt: I used plain regular yogurt but you can use greek yogurt for thicker texture if you wish

As I mentioned early, you may also use strawberry compote or strawberry sauce or even strawberry syrup, strawberry essence, strawberry jam, artificial strawberry flavor etc to make strawberry yogurt though we use fresh strawberries in this recipe.

You can enjoy this as a delicious strawberry smoothie bowl with added toppings like more sliced strawberries, bananas, granola, peanut butter, blueberries, nuts or any topping you like for quick breakfast smoothie bowls. Other easy ways to use strawberry yogurt include using the flavored yogurt to make desserts like parfaits or frozen yogurt treats! You may also want to try this easy honey vanilla greek yogurt if you like sweetened flavored yogurts! Adding strawberries to yogurt along with sweetener is an easy way to make regular yogurt or greek yogurt taste even better!

homemade fruit flavored yogurt using plain yogurt and strawberries:

Homemade strawberry fruit flavored yogurt is super easy, simple and quick to make if you have fresh strawberries and plain yogurt at home. You may use any type of your favorite yogurt that you usually use to make fruit flavored strawberry yogurt. If you want thicker yogurt you can use greek yogurt. The texture of the strawberry flavored yogurt will greatly depend on the kind of yogurt you choose to make the flavored yogurt. As I mentioned, greek yogurt will yield a thicker consistency. But you can use regular low fat yogurt or whole milk yogurt as you prefer.

two ways to make strawberry yogurt:

    strawberry yogurt

There are basically two ways how you can make fruit flavored strawberry yogurt for smoothie bowls and parfaits.

One method is to use homemade strawberry sauce using fresh strawberries to make the flavored yogurt. This method is preferred if you have few minutes to make the strawberry sauce and let it cool down before you mix the sauce with the yogurt to make the flavored yogurt. The other method is quicker and even more easier since we just blend the strawberries with yogurt in a blender or using food processor.

This is much faster since you don't have to wait longer to cool down any ingredients since we use chilled strawberries and yogurt to make it. However, there is a difference in the texture with both methods. When you blend the strawberries and yogurt through the blender, that will yield a thinner more liquid like consistency for the flavored yogurt which is similar to that of smoothies. This is delicious, have smooth consistency and perfect to be used in smoothie bowls or to enjoy it as a drink but if you prefer a more thicker texture, you can use the method where you just need to whisk in the strawberry sauce with the yogurt!

So here is how you can easily make strawberry flavored yogurt at home using plain yogurt and strawberries.

how to make strawberry yogurt for fruit flavored smoothie bowls?

    strawberry yogurt

To make strawberry flavored yogurt, we use the following ingredients.

ingredients used to make strawberry yogurt

    • strawberries 1 cup (I used fresh strawberries, chilled)
    • yogurt 1 cup (may use greek yogurt for thicker texture)
    • sugar 4 tablespoons

    step by step instructions

    • Wash the strawberries very well, remove the greens.
    • If you are using large sized strawberries, slice them in halves or quarters.
    • Place the cleaned strawberries in a blender or food processor.
    • Add yogurt and sugar also and blend the contents until smooth!
    • Transfer the prepared strawberry yogurt to bowls, top with more sliced strawberries if you wish, enjoy!

    • You can also enjoy this as a simple, easy and quick strawberry smoothie for breakfast or snack.
    • The strawberry yogurt made in this way usually has thinner texture similar to that of smoothies, you may use the second method for a thicker texture and also if you want chunks of strawberries in the yogurt instead of a very smooth texture.

Alternate Method To Make Strawberry Yogurt:

    • After washing and removing the greens from the strawberries, slice them small.
    • Then add the sliced strawberries to a saucepan.
    • Also add the sugar, mix well and cook in low to medium heat for about 5 to 6 minutes until you get the texture of strawberry sauce (keep stirring often to avoid the strawberries burning at the bottom of the pan).
    • Once the strawberry sauce is made, allow the mixture to cool down.
    • Once it is cooled to room temperature, whisk yogurt in a separate large bowl.
    • Add the prepared strawberry sauce little by little to the whisked yogurt, stir in with the yogurt until desired consistency is reached.
    • When using homemade or storebought sauce, only add few spoons of strawberry sauce at a time to make sure you have the desired flavor (you may not need to use the entire sauce at the same time and you can save any leftovers for later use in clean, dry glass jars and keep it refrigerated where it stays fresh for another few more days).
    • Also you may add more sweetener if desired.
    • You may also run this through a food processor or blender for a smooth but thinner texture if desired.

    • Serve the strawberry yogurt chilled for best results!

    how to store strawberry yogurt?

To save the yogurt for using later, transfer the strawberry yogurt to clean, dry glass jars and keep refrigerated until ready to use! The strawberry yogurt will keep fresh in the refrigerator for another 2 to 3 days or you may freeze the yogurt in ice cube trays for even longer time. If you have store bought or homemade strawberry sauce or strawberry compote, you can use that to make strawberry yogurt instead of making it from scratch. You may also use strawberry jam or strawberry spread to make strawberry flavored yogurt from plain yogurt.

tips to make smoothie bowls using strawberry yogurt:

If you wish to make smoothie bowls using this strawberry flavored yogurt, you may choose greek yogurt to make the smoothie bowl even more healthy and thicker in texture. Also, smoothie bowls are more thicker in texture and smoothies meant for drinking, so you may add 2 tablespoons of nut butters like cashew butter or almond butter (blend with strawberry yogurt while making it) to make it more thicker.

Also, you may use 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, ground flax seeds, sesame seeds etc which will make the smoothie bowls more thicker in texture and more nutritious. Another way to thicken the strawberry yogurt is to blend in one ripe fresh or frozen sliced banana which will add more natural sweetness too! Once you blend everything, pour the prepared strawberry yogurt smoothie to bowls and top with more sliced fresh strawberries, bananas etc or add more berries like raspberries, blueberries etc or use nuts like pistachios, cashews, sliced almonds etc for a delicious breakfast.
