blueberry oatmeal

I like to add raw honey to sweeten my blueberry oatmeal.

Honey just go great with this blueberry oatmeal, balancing the slight sourness and sweetness of the blueberries and they blend in just right.

If you do not want to add honey, you can use pure fresh maple syrup or stevia or refined sugar as you like!

How to make blueberry oatmeal porridge sweetened with honey?

We use the following ingredients to make delicious, easy oatmeal with blueberries & honey.

blueberry oatmeal

ingredients to make blueberry oatmeal

oats 2 cups (I used old fashioned rolled oats)

water 2.5 cups

milk 1 cup

blueberries 1.5 cups (may keep a little extra for adding later or for garnishing the porridge)

honey 3 tablespoons adjust to taste (or use maple syrup or sugar or brown sugar)

vanilla extract ½ teaspoon (optional)

cinnamon powder ½ teaspoon

fresh heavy cream ¼ cup (may add little more)

step by step instructions

Add the blueberries and oatmeal to a saucepan.

Add water and milk, mix well with the oats and blueberries.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium and cook the oats for about 2 minutes until the oats is almost cooked. Make sure to stir in between so the oats won’t get burnt at the bottom of the pan.

Add honey (or pure fresh maple syrup or sugar), vanilla extract and cinnamon powder, mix well.

Continue cooking the oats & blueberries for another couple of minutes until the oats is soft and the blueberries also turn soft.

You may add a few more fresh blueberries (washed well) to the pan if you wish and stir well to combine with the oats, so the oats will have the flavor of fresh blueberries as well.

For more blueberry flavor, you can mash some of the blueberries with a large spoon so the blueberry flavor will blend with the oats easily.

Also add some fresh cream to the oatmeal, mix everything well to combine and serve the delicious blueberry oatmeal warm!

How to store blueberry oatmeal porridge?

Blueberry oatmeal can be enjoyed warm or chilled as you like.

As the oatmeal sits for longer time, it can thicken so you may add more milk, almond milk or water as you desire, to adjust the consistency of your oatmeal.

To store the oatmeal for longer time, once the oatmeal cools down to room temperature, just transfer the oatmeal to air tight containers and store in the refrigerator.

The blueberry oatmeal will stay fresh in the refrigerator for a couple of days, if stored properly.

To store for even longer time, prepared oatmeal may be stored in the freezer. You can get more information on freezing oatmeal here.
