Creamy Blueberry Milkshake

Milkshakes are delicious, refreshing drinks that are perfect for summer or anytime of the year.

I like to make different varieties of milkshakes with ice cream and without ice cream and they are all simply amazing.

Blueberry milkshake is one of the most delicious, easy, colorful & quite nutritious milkshake that you can make at home.

Adding blueberries to the milkshake naturally make them look blue or slightly purple colored depending on the ingredients, lighting etc & also the color will depend on the amount of blueberries that you are using.

Adding ice cream to make this blueberry milkshake makes sure it is very creamy & rich & flavorful as well. You may use vanilla ice cream or blueberry ice cream or any suitable flavors of your choice.

Instead of ice cream, you may also use just heavy cream or whipped cream to make the blueberry milkshake creamy.

However, if you do not have ice cream or heavy cream, you can also make it just using milk.

Since we use sugar in the preparation, it is definitely not the most healthy or best way to enjoy blueberries or milk, but you can enjoy this sometimes as a delicious treat for yourself or your family.

The best part of making a milkshake is that it is so easy to make from scratch at home!

If you have a good quality blender and a few ingredients like milk, sugar, ice cream and some flavors, you can easily make milkshakes that almost taste like desserts in no time.

Milkshakes for breakfast is one of the most easy things to do as well (though not on a daily basis).

If you are concerned about the sugar, you may use natural sweetners like honey or pure, fresh maple syrup as well.

Milkshakes are filling, delicious, easy to make, need very few minutes to make during the busy morning hours and you can change the flavors so easily as well.

Adding Blueberries To Make Milkshake

As we know, milkshakes are not the most healthy breakfast or drink since we use sugar and cream in the preparation.

However, adding fruits like blueberries, raspberries or strawberries definitely make them a bit more healthier and much more nutritious than they normally are.

I have made strawberry milkshake too and it is also very easy to make with or without ice cream and its very delicious as well.

Strawberry milkshake without ice cream is also very delicious just with cream & milk!

Blueberries are superfoods with a lot of health benefits.

They are rich in Vitamin C and also full of antioxidants making them very good for improving immunity.

I have more blueberry recipes in this blog like this instant pot blueberry jam, eggless blueberry pancakes, blueberry banana cake, blueberry sauce, blueberry filling for cake, blueberry crumble pie etc.

Blueberries have lots of fibers and so they are good for digestion as well.

You can read more about the health benefits of blueberries here.

Blueberries are naturally sweet and can be slightly sour (or little too sour sometimes).

If your blueberries are slightly higher on the sour side, you will need to add the sugar or any natural sweetener like honey or fresh maple syrup to sweeten the milkshake.

So here is how you can make easy and delicious blueberry milkshake using fresh or frozen blueberries.

How To Make Blueberry Milkshake?

I use fresh blueberries most often, so if you have fresh blueberries go for it, but you may replace fresh blueberries with frozen berries as well if that is what you have, as thy both work.

The ice cream I used here is the birthday cake flavor that has vanilla flavor with sprinkles in it but you can use any suitable flavors like vanilla ice cream, blueberry ice cream etc.

The ingredients list for making blueberry milkshake is as follows:

blueberries 1.5 cups (fresh or frozen good quality blueberries, preferrably sweet)

milk 1 cup chilled

ice cream (vanilla, blueberry, birthday cake flavor or any suitable choice) 2 cups

sugar 3 to 4 tablespoons (or use pure fresh maple syrup)

vanilla extract 1 teaspoon

Step By Step Instructions

Wash the blueberries very well (if using fresh berries, you do not need to wash frozen berries) and transfer to the blender.

Notes: If making for later use, keep it refrigerated until serving, because the milkshake tastes the best when its served chilled.

You may need to stir the milkshake a bit with a spoon before serving, if you are storing for later use.

Also, if you are not serving the same day, its a good idea to freeze the milkshake.

You can freeze the milkshake in ice cube trays to store for few more days if needed and just blend the frozen cubes again in the blender until very smooth, just before serving.

How To Make Blueberry Milkshake Without Ice Cream?

You may make blueberry milkshake without ice cream too, just using milk, blueberries, sugar and vanilla.

You can slightly increase the amount of milk & also add some heavy cream to make creamy, delicious blueberry milkshake without ice cream.

How To Make Blueberry Milkshake Without Sugar?

If you do not want to add sugar to the blueberry milkshake, you can use any natural sweeteners like pure fresh maple syrup or honey as you like.

If you do not want to add any sugar at all, I would recommend using naturally sweet blueberries to make the milkshake since the sour berries will not be quite ideal to make milkshakes without adding sweeteners.

Can You Make Vegan Blueberry Milkshake?

Yes, you may make vegan blueberry milkshake by using almond milk or cashew milk in place of regular milk.

Also you may replace the ice cream with any vegan ice cream options, or totally skip the ice cream if you do not have a vegan option.
